McMaster Children's Hospital - Hamilton Health Sciences

I loved and appreciated Mcmaster in labour and delivery, and while my baby was in NICU E-pod. It wasn't until my baby moved to Nicu C-pod that the experience took a negative turn. The hospital decided to move my baby across town to St. Joe's in Hamilton at 30 weeks gestation without any real explanation other than all is well, but he's being transferred. I came to his pod to find all his stuff packed up and received info from a nurse that didn’t make sense. I explained to her and my social worker that I do not drive, and because I had a spot at the Ronald McDonald housing right beside McMaster, it made more sense for us to stay put to be close to my baby until we could transfer to our hometown hospital. I had already gone through a traumatic birthing experience and a transfer to McMaster to begin with, and was under high stress being separated from my baby at birth. We had just started to get into a routine as a family being next door. They still decided to move my baby anyway, knowing I wouldn't work for us and wouldn't be able to get to him across town. It caused extreme stress. For that, I give Mcmaster a one-star review because their decisions were not in the best interest of my baby or his family. During such stressful times, they piled on more stress. Several of the day shift nurses in C-POD NCU were also not attentive at all during our final visits and were rude, taking several hour-long breaks throughout one shift, socializing instead of doing their tasks, making inappropriate comments.. and one staff member, while the transfer was about to happen, came in and made weird comments on my babies name not seeing that I was behind her which was so rude and inappropriate.. all that also caused stress throughout our final days at C-POD Mcmaster. :( I have struggled with depression in the past and have anxiety today, so I’m concerned about how the experience will affect my long-term mental health. Poor job with decision-making and transfers, Mcmaster. You need to give moms better transfer breakdowns and mental health support if you are going to separate them from their babies like that. No one went over anything with me properly, and even my social worker didn't get back to me or follow up to my messages.

This is THE best children’s hospital around. My son was very sick and admitted last year. The care we received here was amazing. I cannot thank the Dr.’s and team here enough.

We came in on Friday for my daughter to have an echocardiogram, ECG and stress test. Every staff member was so patient and understanding of my young daughter’s anxiety and I am so grateful. Thank you for making her appointments less stressful for her. It means so much. Very dedicated and caring staff. ❤️

I wish I'd read the reviews before bothering to drive here. I took my child in with possible blood poisoning. They left us waiting for the doctor all night in a freezing cold room with no blanket or pillow for the kids. I gave up my jacket so my daughter could be warm while I sat there freezing. Not once did anyone check in or update us. Saw the doctor in the area once to see a baby. Nobody else saw the doctor yet we were told we were being taken in order of severity (so apparently nobody was severe enough to see the doctor except the baby). One doctor at an emergency Centre for children is ridiculous. I eventually just took my child and left because at that point I could see my own doctor who would actually care about my daughters condition. I feel for the other parents and their children left waiting there all night in the cold, blanketless rooms. Oh and the nurses were sitting at their station without their masks on, while we sat alone in rooms, masked. I fail to see any praise given that this is a good hospital to bring your kids to.

It was a wonderful wonderful experience. An amazing medical team dealt with us with all respect. They would ask you about things before you require. The patients are angels with love and respect. They do their work. How beautiful this hospital is.

My daughter is having my first grand child. Things really weren’t going well for her. She was sent to this hospital for an emergency surgery. She’s doing very well and is being taken care of extremely well. We travel back and forth every week for check ups with a really amazing doctor. He’s super nice and I don’t get how he has such a positive vibe about him working the hours he does. I wish him well and I know my daughter wouldn’t be where she is today with my grand son if it wasn’t for him. He’s a true hero!!! No matter the outcome we will see shortly. Someone above blessed McMaster with some of the most amazing people. Thank you all for working long and exhausting hours. We appreciate you especially doctor ashwell sorry if I spelled their name wrong.

I will not come here again next time, because I am Asian, and the attitude of the nurses was very unfriendly when I registered. I felt that they didn't want to talk to me about the child's symptoms, and just wanted to end the conversation with me quickly, but I found them He and his fair-skinned parents had a good attitude and asked detailed questions.After I waited 7hours,one guy came to me and told me my son looks like fine ,no need to rush ,when I asked him why some children after me ,but they already went inside,he told me it’s hospital rules,he no need to tell me , What are the rules and regulations of the hospital, isn't it the same for every child before seeing the doctor? What is the hospital system to determine that my child is not sick? Is it just because he looks good? Now in my 11th hour in the hospital, at 3:00am, the doctor told me that my baby would have to undergo surgery. is this fair

Was a fantastic hospital for Labour and delivery in conjunction with a midwife from Hamilton community midwives. Had the best time! Also very very good cafe + Starbucks for Dads on level 1.

Can be super long wait times if busy 7-8 hrs to see the doc. Worth the wait- nurses, doctors & staff are all so caring, amazing with kids & families, supportive, understanding & helpful. Really helps reduce anxiety for the parent or child. The best medical equipment and waiting area made just for kids! We need more of these facilities for families with young children.

I went here last week for my daughter’s MRI appointment, it was at 5:15 pm but we have to wait for one hour… parking is so expensive at all hospitals…But we were treated so well, MRI people so professional and sweet with all kids there, Thank you
